Use of business aircraft has been growing rapidly since the start of the decade and now represents 7.3% of IFR traffic. Since 2000 the fleet has grown by over 1000 turbine powered aircraft to number over 4000 jet and turboprop aircraft today. However, because the fleet is young and flies only to task rather than on schedules like the airlines, it is responsible for only 0.03-0.04 % of all EU emissions (and less than 1% of aviation emissions). Yet this vital sector annually contributes nearly €20 billion to the European economy, generating €5.7 billion in salaries and wages.
