Traffic Tracker - September Rise Despite Data Revision

Business aviation traffic figures continued to climb in September, with growth of 1.5% compared to the same month last year. However, it should be noted that, after having reported a strong recovery in the summer months of July and August, Eurocontrol has changed the scope of its ‘definition’ of the business aviation segment, thus altering previously reported results.

Under the revised definition, which brings in a number of new aircraft, including Airbus and Boeing bizliner products, the traffic figures for July and August have been amended downwards to 1.1% and -2.5% respectively, compared to the same period last year. This also means that the 2016 YTD figure is now notably lower than reported last month, standing at -0.9% through September, as compared to +0.9%. EBAA is in the process of updating the traffic tracker figures for the whole of 2016 and will publish these shortly. This update will also include a change of scope to comprise the Single European Sky area of countries instead of the previous EU28.
