Brussels, 27 April 2022. The European Business Aviation Association is today highlighting the contribution of Business aviation to the region’s economy and its importance for post-COVID19 recovery with the publication of its annual Yearbook. Improved and more accessible tha other years, this edition is open to the public.

Every flight starts at the airport. EBAA is aware of the serious challenges that Business aviation operators face regarding the ability to access a growing number of key airports in Europe.

Access to airspace is a key priority for European Business aviation, which sometimes is challenging for our sector.

The Commission has opened a broad consultation on the rules that shape life on the ramp and in the terminal: slot allocation, ground handling and airport charges. It is a fitness check to see whether the current framework still works in a market that looks different to a few years ago, with tighter capacity, changing travel patterns, labour shortages and a sharper focus on decarbonisation. EBAA picked up the early signals and moved first for members, submitting structured evidence and engaging stakeholders so practical realities are reflected from the outset.

ClimbingFast.eu has launched as the global expansion of NBAA’s advocacy campaign, led in Europe by EBAA. The platform highlights our manifesto and Oxford Economics data showing business aviation’s €120 billion FDI impact and 400,000 jobs. It provides fact-based narratives on sustainability, connectivity and humanitarian contributions.

The EU–U.S. trade agreement imposes a 15% tariff on most goods — but aviation doesn't fall under that. Aircraft, aircraft engines, and parts remain zero-tariff, ensuring transatlantic supply chains. This outcome follows intense lobbying by industry leaders on both sides of the Atlantic. One major win for business aviation — it ensures stability, access, and growth.

On the 9th of June the European legislature has entered into its first year of tenure, with the Commission currently focusing on developing new proposals, in line with its 2025 Work Programme, as well as reviewing existing pieces of legislation that are deemed to need a refit. Among the list of legislation being reviewed is the Air Service Regulation (1008/2008), first adopted in 2008, which lays down rules for the operation of air transport services in the EU, including the licensing of EU air carriers and price transparency.

We operate at the forefront of global mobility, connecting businesses, facilitating trade, and providing essential services that no other mode of transport can match. Yet, our journey is far from smooth. Anyone with a minimum knowledge of the sector is aware of the complex headwinds we face: from persistent public perception challenges and fragmented regulations to the existential call for Net Zero and the geopolitical shifts impacting our continent.
