20 January, 2020 (Zürich). A global coalition focused on business aviation sustainability today welcomed two new carbon-reduction initiatives for Davos-bound flights at this year’s World Economic Forum (WEF), starting Jan. 21, 2020, in Davos, Switzerland.

23 October 2019 (Brussels). The European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) has committed to working with a newly formed project team of business aviation young professionals to develop and introduce an industry-wide sustainability label. The programme seeks to help EBAA member organisations play an even greater role in addressing social and environmental issues through awareness raising, best practices sharing and tailored guidance.

As other regions intensify competition for investment and influence, the European Union must leverage every strategic asset at its disposal. Business aviation – often misunderstood as a luxury – is in fact a crucial tool for restoring and bolstering Europe’s competitiveness. It enables rapid access to international markets, facilitates foreign investments, and strengthens Europe’s strategic economic positioning on the world stage. In the context of EU policy debates, recognising the value of business aviation is more important than ever.

Launching in June, the programme empowers ambassadors to engage with EU policymakers and industry leaders. A Brussels workshop will offer hands-on advocacy training and strategic networking opportunities. Ambassadors play a vital role in advancing business aviation at both national and European levels.

EBAA, alongside a broad coalition of aviation associations has co-signed a letter urging the European Commission to introduce further flexibilities to the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation...

“Policies that seek to constrain the growth of business aviation create implicit trade-offs between the environmental benefits arising from fewer flights and the foregone benefits associated with business aviation”.

EBAA’s Operational Affairs Department ensures business aviation’s interests are represented in European and global initiatives. Through its work in areas like FABEC, TBO, PNR, and CNS modernization, EBAA fosters efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, strengthening the sector’s role in the European airspace ecosystem.

Teresa Ribera's appointment as the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just, and Competitive Transition signals stricter sustainability policies for business aviation. EBAA will advocate for fair regulations while supporting the sector’s innovation and alignment with EU climate goals.

The past five years marked a turbulent era for European business aviation, driven by the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath. While activity surged briefly from mid-2021 to late 2022, driven by new customer demand and disrupted commercial flights, levels returned to pre-pandemic norms by late 2022. Claims of explosive growth are exaggerated, as 2022 activity mirrored 2007, highlighting the industry’s stability amid polarized debates on sustainability and class issues.
